Motorcycle parking in Cambridge

21 motorcycle bays, 5 of them free. Cambridge is built around bicycles rather than motorcycles, and the two get confused constantly: a cycle stand is not a motorcycle bay and parking a bike in one can be ticketed. The historic core is largely closed to traffic.

5 of these are customer parking, private land or permit holders only. 4 say so on the bay itself, and 1 sits inside a car park that is marked that way. Being on the map is not the same as being somewhere you may leave a bike, and neither is being free: on private land the risk is a parking charge from the landowner, which cannot be appealed to an independent tribunal the way a council ticket can.

What the council says

Nothing we can verify. Cambridge does not publish a motorcycle parking position we have been able to find and confirm, so this page does not claim one. That is not the same as parking being free: it means the sign at the bay is the only thing that settles it, and you should read it before you walk away.

Where a council does publish a position we quote it, as on Nottingham and Manchester, which happen to say opposite things.

Car parks that take bikes

We hold 112 car parks in Cambridge, and a car park always takes a motorcycle, which is the usual answer when there is no bay near where you are going.

The price shown on a car park is the car tariff. That is what the operator publishes, and it is almost never what a motorcycle pays. Plenty of councils let bikes park free in a designated area, some charge a flat daily rate, and some have a separate bike cage. We have not been able to confirm what Cambridge charges a motorcycle, so check before you pay.

Counts are every record we hold inside the Cambridge local authority, correct when this page was built. Cambridge publishes no motorcycle position we have been able to confirm, so nothing on this page states one. Bay locations outside London are mapped from OpenStreetMap, which is contributed by volunteers rather than published by the council, so treat counts as a guide. Always follow the sign at the bay.
