Partners and credits

Most of what SoloBay shows comes from councils, Ordnance Survey and our own surveying. Some of it comes from riders who go and look. Where a person found a place, their name goes on it.

Motorcycle Grounds

Motorcycle Grounds David Vaughan rides out, finds the cafes, and writes them up. Motorcycle Grounds is his, and his motorcycle friendly cafe list is the result of actually going: he checks where you put the bike, not just whether the coffee is good. SoloBay carries that list with his credit on every cafe card and a link straight back to his write-up.

He adds new cafes every month, across Hertfordshire, London and further afield, and SoloBay picks them up automatically. If a cafe on SoloBay says "Picked by David Vaughan", that is why, and the parking note on it is his.

See every cafe he has picked, grouped by area, with the parking note on each one.

Why the credit matters

A scraped directory tells you a cafe exists. A rider who has been tells you whether you can leave a bike outside it without worrying. Those are different things, and the second one is worth attributing. It is also the deal: we use the list, he gets the credit and the traffic.

Curators

The credit on a cafe card is not a one off. SoloBay has a curator model behind it, so any rider whose picks we carry gets a profile, their own name on their finds, and a link to wherever they publish. Motorcycle Grounds is the first.

If you write about places riders actually go, cafes, routes, or parking worth knowing about, and you would like them on the map with your name on them, email hello@solobay.co.uk.

Everything else

Our parking data is ours. Bay and car park records come from council open data, Freedom of Information responses, Ordnance Survey boundaries and OpenStreetMap, and we check them against the councils' own published policies. Where we are not sure, SoloBay says so rather than guessing, and the sign at the bay is always the thing that counts.
