Motorcycle parking in City of London

The City of London is its own authority, not a London borough, and it runs its own parking rules across the Square Mile. We hold 59 motorcycle bays here covering roughly 398 marked spaces, which is a high number of spaces per bay: City bays tend to be long runs of marked parking rather than the single and double spaces common further out.

Not every bay has a published capacity, so the number of marked spaces is lower than the number of bays rather than higher. It counts only the bays where a capacity is recorded.

Small area, dense parking, heavy weekday demand

The Square Mile is about one square mile, so almost everything is within a short walk of everything else. The catch is that demand is concentrated into weekday working hours and collapses at weekends, when the City empties out. If you ride in midweek, aim early. If you ride in on a Saturday, you will find the same bays largely empty.

The City of London Corporation sets its own charges and permits separately from the surrounding boroughs, so neither a Westminster nor an Islington permit helps you here.

How do you pay?

Through the provider named on the plate beside the bay, which across most of London means RingGo. Nothing goes on the bike, because wardens check by number plate. SoloBay shows the location number for each bay and opens the payment app with it already filled in.

When do you have to pay?

During the controlled hours printed on the plate. They change from street to street, so read the plate rather than assuming the borough is the same throughout. Do not stay longer than the maximum stay on the sign.

Bay locations for City of London come from OpenStreetMap, which is mapped by volunteers rather than published by the council, so treat counts as a guide and the sign at the bay as the authority. Where we hold council data, as in Westminster and Camden, we say so. Checked October 2026.
