Motorcycle parking in Tower Hamlets

Tower Hamlets covers two quite different riding problems: the tower blocks of Canary Wharf and the Isle of Dogs, where parking is mostly private and controlled, and the older East End streets around Whitechapel, Bethnal Green and Bow. We hold 104 bays and 48 car parks that take bikes, which is the largest car park count of any inner east borough on our map.

Not every bay has a published capacity, so the number of marked spaces is lower than the number of bays rather than higher. It counts only the bays where a capacity is recorded.

Canary Wharf is not like the rest of the borough

Much of the Canary Wharf estate is private land rather than public highway, so the rules are set by the estate and not by Tower Hamlets Council. That means the usual borough permits do not necessarily apply and the signage is the only thing that counts. The 48 car parks we hold for the borough matter more here than anywhere else in east London, because for large parts of the Isle of Dogs a car park is the realistic option.

How do you pay?

Through the provider named on the plate beside the bay, which across most of London means RingGo. Nothing goes on the bike, because wardens check by number plate. SoloBay shows the location number for each bay and opens the payment app with it already filled in.

When do you have to pay?

During the controlled hours printed on the plate. They change from street to street, so read the plate rather than assuming the borough is the same throughout. Do not stay longer than the maximum stay on the sign.

Bay locations for Tower Hamlets come from OpenStreetMap, which is mapped by volunteers rather than published by the council, so treat counts as a guide and the sign at the bay as the authority. Where we hold council data, as in Westminster and Camden, we say so. Checked October 2026.
